The meaning of brushless motor KV

The Brushless DC Motor used in the model has a low KV value of several hundred to 23,000, and a high value of 56,000. It represents the value of the increase in speed for each voltage increase by 1 volt. For brushless DC motors, this value is a constant.


Motor KV value: motor speed (no load) = KV value X voltage; for example, the speed (no load) of a KV1000 motor at 10V voltage is 10,000 revolutions per minute.


For brushless of the same size:


A motor with a large number of winding turns has a low KV value, a small maximum output current, but a large torque;


A motor with a few turns has a high KV value, a high output current, but a small torque;


From the KV value alone, the KV level cannot be used to evaluate the quality of the motor, nor can the KV be used to evaluate whether the pulling force of the motor is strong, because different KV values have different applications:


*High voltage environment (11.1V)


If the KV value is low, a higher speed can be reached under this voltage environment, and the torque is good, which is ideal. It needs to be equipped with a larger reduction ratio and a smaller propeller. Under the condition of meeting the output power, the load should be reduced to avoid excessive current;


If the KV value is high, the speed is too high in this environment. In order to avoid excessive current, reduce the load as much as possible. With its high speed, it is very suitable for ducted fan engines.


*Low voltage environment (7.4V)


The low KV value, due to the low speed, is suitable for a smaller reduction ratio and a larger propeller, and a larger load is used to increase the current and output a larger power;


The high KV value, due to the high speed, is suitable for a larger reduction ratio and a smaller propeller. Under the condition of meeting the output power, the load should be reduced to avoid excessive current;


11.1V and 7.4V are just examples and are commonly used small levels. The brushless voltage range is very wide and the performance is amazing.


(Kv can only indicate the idling situation of the motor, the specific performance depends on the actual situation of the load.)
